Have you ever been driving and you were in the fast lane but someone in front of you is driving slow? That is the most frustrating thing when you are trying to get somewhere in a hurry. I'm not saying I speed but I get to where I need to go when necessary..😂. When this happens, I am sure I am not the only one that wants the car to move over. I mean move over to the far right lane just in case lol. We are often in such a hurry that we just want things or people to move over while we pass by.

What about when God wants us to move over so He can do what He needs to do? I was listening to a very popular gospel artist and for that reason I won't name who but the artist said in the song and I am paraphrasing to protect identity..."ok let's worship." The artist I am sure did not intend it to be a problem and until today, this didn't bother me. I'm not sure why today my ears were tuned in more but I heard it and it made me listen to the words. I am glad I did because those few words brought great revelation.

As I listened, none of the lyrics to the song had anything to do with worshipping but it stated affirmations. Affirmations are sayings that speak over your life. They can be positive or negative. I'm not against affirmations at all! I say positive affirmations to encourage my own self sometimes but these affirmations in the song were not worship. It was all about what God can do for us. Never once did it mention what we would do for Him. I believe for me to worship, it requires a sacrifice of self not a promotion of self. When we self promote in an atmosphere of worship, we lift our own selves up over the God we are serving. That thing hit me like a ton of bricks because God clearly was saying don't confuse affirmations with worship. Isn't that mind blowing? Then, he brought to my memory another song by another artist and pointed out that it was also about declarations and affirmations.

Don't get me wrong. I am all about them because we need them in moments of discouragement and doubt or fear, etc. But, we must be careful that we don't let the affirmations take the place of our worship to God. When we worship, we should move over. The action of praise that flows from our mouths can set the atmosphere for worship to take place so that we can have a visit from the Lord because in His presence, we are affirmed. We should try to move ourselves over for God to pass by us like He did with Moses.

Take some time and think about your recent quiet times. Did you use affirmations or did you move and give of yourself to God? What can you or have you done differently?

I must admit that I want everything that God has for me but I don't want it at the expense of only pleasing myself and not Him.

What about you?

Peace and blessings.

Giving you the ladder up,

Rosalind

The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:5-7)
